Cameo Singers was formed as the Wokingham Madrigal Singers in 1951. The choir met originally in people's homes, and concentrated on singing Madrigals as the name suggests. Cameo Singers continues this tradition, but has broadened its repertoire to include sacred works, spirituals, folk song arrangements and "fun" pieces.

The Cameo Singers performs up to 6 concerts each season in venues from the West of Reading to Sunningdale, usually as an invited choir for charity concerts, often with other groups.

"The Cameo Singers are Wokingham's own madrigal group. Their style is quite unforced, they simply sing, letting the music speak for itself, the result is beautiful."

Twinning

The choir has in recent years made several trips to Wokingham's twin town in Erftstadt in Germany (where we took part in a festival to mark the local choir's 75th anniversary and the town's 25th), and to Viry-Chtillon, near Paris. These choirs are making a return visit to Wokingham in May 1998.

Membership / Rehearsals

Cameo Singers is a small friendly choir, and we are always keen to welcome new singers. The choir also has an active social side which includes pub evenings, dinners and an annual party. Membership is normally open to any experienced singer with reasonable sight-reading ability. Anyone interested in joining at any time during the season is invited to come and try us out for a week or two, or contact the Secretary on 0118 973 3743.
